About the Almanac

Practical Home & Garden Writing for Everyday Houses

We started The Fernwood Almanac because most of the homes we know don't look like the ones in magazines — and that's exactly the point.

Our Mission

Garden Are Made, Not Bought

The Fernwood Almanac exists to help people make small, honest improvements to the gardens they already have — whether that's a rented apartment, a starter house, or a garden that's really just a windowsill. We write for readers who want their space to feel more like them, one weekend project at a time.

What Readers Can Expect

Our Editorial Values

i.

Tested Before Published

Every project and gardening guide is tried in a real home before it's written up — we don't publish anything we haven't done ourselves.

ii.

Written Plainly

No jargon for its own sake. If a term needs explaining, we explain it, so any reader can follow a project start to finish.

iii.

Useful Over Trendy

We favor advice that holds up over time — the kind of home and garden guidance you'll still reach for next year.
